The Brain Stem and it's Role in Our Health

The brain stem is one of the most underrated things in our body, especially when it comes to our health.

All of us know how important the brain is. But when I bring up the brain stem many people only have a vague idea of what it is or simply have not heard of it.

The brain stem is the part of our nervous system that connects our entire brain to our spinal cord. In addition, it is the control box for about 80% of the things that keep you alive that you don't have to think about: heart rate, digestion, sleep cycle, mood, etc.

With many people who are struggling with autoimmunity, hyper-activation of their nerves, fibromyalgia, tinnitus, chronic pain and a whole host of chronic issues - I find it puzzling that the brain stem does not get talked about more.

After all, if your air conditioning goes down one of the first things they look at is the control panel. This seems obvious that if the central control panel is not working correctly the whole system will not be able to work correctly.

Yet when the human body shows up with problems, how often do we look at the central control panel? Hardly ever!

What's more, the brain stem with its' millions of nerves operates in pretty tight window.

Many of us are walking around with compression, twisting, and leaning between the head and neck which closes down that window further.

As an upper cervical chiropractor I see that a breakdown and misalignment between the head and neck often correlates to sub-optimal functioning of the brain stem - the central control panel.

If nothing else know how important the brain stem is and there are ways to improve the structure that it operates in!
